There's a theater in Texas planning to show Team America in place of The Interview

My friend and I were talking about this last night. Maybe Sony should do an online release. What are the North Koreans going to do, blow up every house that downloads the movie?

Nothing happened when that movie came out. Now everyone is giving in to vague threats. Prepare to not have anything even remotely controversial come out ever again in any industry.

Unfortunately it's clear that even if North Korea didn't orchestra this attack, somebody is capable of doing so, and probably doing something similar again. If this were an attack or similar issue with the US government, it would be utterly ridiculous for them give in like this. Since Sony is a private company though, they have to manage this incident in a way that minimizes risk for them.
Though it's probably pretty unlikely that there would be some sort of terror attack on a screening of this movie, I can imagine the leadership at Sony not wanting to risk the PR disaster that would cause. I do not think caving to the threat was smart from an industry wide perspective however. It shows whoever was responsible that they can indeed produce results, and thus Sony's decision will likely negatively impact the security of their competitors and other industries. Unfortunately, Sony's leadership is trying to maximize profits for themselves, not for everybody, so they made the decision that was best for them.

There are some people floating around the idea that Sony should sell it to Netflix.

The truly funny thing is, the Korean War is actually not over. There is only a cease-fire in place. We are technically in a state of war with them at all times. I agree with the so-called jingoism. I say bring it. And don't just half-ass this shit. Go big or go home, well this is American so even if you go big you are going home in either a 2' x 6' box or heavy duty black plastic bags.

There's a real opportunity for some great memes incorporating Korean war images.

my guess is that they didn't release it because of threats to theaters but because they have a lot more email, personal info, dirt etc that they are threatening to release.

No more like I have my Korean defense medal. And conducted cyber-warfare against the north a couple years ago.

Bummed out that AAFES is not showing this. I bet the KATUSA's would love it and laugh their asses off.
